A free 30minute introductory lesson
Your introduction to Karl will begin with a brief telephone interview in which Karl will ask you about your goals, your musical interests, and your playing. If you are the kind of student he thinks will benefit from his teaching, Karl will invite you to take a free 30minute introductory lesson where you and he will be able to determine if you can be successful together.
Lessons tailored to each student
When you study with Karl, you will never be asked to buy a book. You won’t even be asked to read music. Karl will ask you about your goals, examine your playing, and tailor a lesson plan to your specific needs in order to get you where you want to go in the shortest time possible. With this in mind, Karl insists on seeing each student at least once a week to make sure you are on the path to success.
No scales
With Karl, the focus of study is on chord tones and phrases. You will never be asked to memorize or Exercise scales. Karl believes a good line comes from having a solid and coherent rhythmic idea as a foundation, and building a melody from intervals of the chord you’re playing over. Over all, Karl places most importance on your playing with emphasis. Like when speaking, if you don’t emphasize the important parts of what you want to say, your idea will not be understood.
